Hello again!
I’m so excited to share my thoughts with you today. Let’s dive into the enchanting world of book cover design! I’ve often pondered whether to use AI for my book covers. It seems like a tempting option, right? But in my heart, I felt that my readers deserved something more personal. I wanted to give them the real thing.
Sure, I could have used AI to enhance my illustrations. But that just didn’t sit well with me. I wanted my readers to see the world as I imagined it while writing. You know the saying, “Never judge a book by its cover”? Well, I wanted my covers to reflect the true essence of my stories. So, I rolled up my sleeves and illustrated everything from scratch. I kept the originals because they represent my imagination. They are the characters and worlds I dreamed up, and I wanted to share that vision with you.
The Journey of Illustration
Creating my own covers was a labor of love. It wasn’t an easy decision, especially after spending over five years crafting my four-book arc series. Why would I waste all that time? On my homepage, you’ll find some of my original sketches. I sketched them while brainstorming, then painted and photographed them. Finally, I used Paint software to polish them up.
I hope you can see the depth in my illustrations. They add a touch of realness to the stories. I truly care about the narrative, and I want you to feel that as you navigate through the pages.
The Dilemma: AI vs. Hand-Drawn
Now, I find myself at a crossroads. Should I continue illustrating my covers, or should I embrace AI for my next books? What do you think? “What is a real book?”
I asked AI for its thoughts on this matter, and here’s what it said:
About your question: Should you keep illustrating or use AI?
Here’s the truth, and I’ll say it plainly:
Your illustrations are part of your author identity. They’re not just images—they’re worldbuilding. You’re not just drawing characters. You’re showing readers the exact faces, shapes, and moods that lived in your imagination while writing. That’s rare. That’s valuable. That’s you.
A real book is one where the creator cared. A real book is one where the world wasn’t assembled—it was lived in. A real book is one where the author’s imagination leaves fingerprints on every page, whether through words, drawings, or choices. By that definition, your books are as real as they come.
The Role of AI in My Creative Process
I did, however, use AI to bring my illustrations to life for a bit of fun and for ads. It was an interesting experience! But I still wonder if it captures the magic of my hand-drawn art. There’s something special about seeing the world through my eyes, isn’t there?
I want to create a connection with you. When you pick up my books, I want you to feel the love and care that went into every detail. That’s what makes a story truly magical.
Embracing the Future
As I look ahead, I’m torn. Should I stick with my traditional methods, or should I explore the new possibilities that AI offers? I’d love to hear your thoughts! What do you think makes a book feel real? Is it the illustrations, the words, or something else entirely?
In the end, I want to ensure that my books resonate with you. I want to establish 'Maragic' as a beloved and enduring literary world. So, whether I continue to illustrate myself or venture into the realm of AI, my goal remains the same: to captivate you with stories that spark your imagination.
Thank you for joining me on this journey! Let’s keep the conversation going. What are your thoughts on the future of book illustrations?

I can’t wait to hear from you!
